New imaging technology improves quality, decreases harm for orthopaedic patients

Children’s is one of the few pediatric hospitals in the country, and the first in the region, using EOS^® imaging technology to gather high quality, full body images. This Nobel prize-winning technology captures simultaneous frontal and lateral images of patients with significantly less radiation than traditional X-rays. It is also a much faster method of imaging.

The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Children’s National uses this imaging technology on a regular basis to provide quality, safe care to pediatric patients with bone issues. “Using this new technology really enhances the way that we can provide care for our pediatric patients,” says Matthew Oetgen, MD, MBA, Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. “And the patients think it’s pretty cool.” The EOS^® is particularly beneficial for patients with spine conditions, such as scoliosis.
