A new approach to treating children diagnosed with bilateral Wilms tumors (BWT) significantly improved event-free survival (EFS), or the length of time a patient does not experience complications or recurrence of cancer following treatment, and overall survival (OS) rates after four years when compared to historical rates, according to a Children's Oncology Group study published in the September 2017 issue of the Annals of Surgery.

New published study shows incisionless surgery with MR-HIFU highly effective in destroying painful bone tumors

Doctors from the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation have completed a clinical trial that demonstrates how osteoid osteoma, a benign but painful bone tumor that commonly occurs in children and young adults, can be safely and successfully treated using an incisionless surgery method called magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU).
